The restored siren is now mounted on a telephone pole at the former water tower site. It will undergo testing this Saturday, October 3, starting before the 10:00 AM countywide siren test. At noon the daily noon whistle will be tested.
Residents may hear the siren sound more than once Saturday morning as testing is completed.
Moving forward, the siren will serve as a severe weather warning and will sound daily at noon.
The tired old emergency siren that has served Pemberville for decades has been successfully restored to full operational status at a minimal cost, generously shared by Freedom Township. Pemberville-Freedom Fire Department, in coordination with Wood County, has completed successful testing to confirm that the electronic control interfaces are fully functional.
Freedom Township, the fire department, and the Village are currently finalizing plans for a permanent mounting site, with the primary location under consideration near the former water tower. Updates will be posted as they become available.
